The paper illustrates the key variables that are affecting the mobile telecommunication sector in the European Union and Croatia. The sector is expanding rapidly due to favourable technological and regulatory environment. The increasing market competition on this market delivers lower prices and better service quality to users. From the point of view of business subjects there is a higher business risk on this market. Financial investors, used to high profits in the industry, may react to these trends by reducing the resources to the sector. From the point of view of social welfare, it may be worth taking the increased financial risk given the huge benefits users and society in general receive. With the comparative analysis of relevant factors on mobile communications market between the chosen countries and Croatia we can conclude that the market has a huge potential of development with high growth and big financial investments. Also, there may be public interest in sustaining the growth of this industry and due to higher risk on this market there is a necessity for taking actions that encourage long term investments in this sector.
